The Seven Social Sins

by Mahatma Gandhi

1. Politics without principles
2. Wealth without work
3. Pleasure without conscience
4. Knowledge without character
5. Commerce without morality
6. Science without humanity
7. Worship without sacrifice

33450_Mahatma-Gandhi_9I have a strong feeling that great people like Mahatma Gandhi, above all had a great spiritual self. The seven golden points mentioned here, reinforce the fact that any change should start from within and then spread to the surroundings. After visiting Navadarshanam, my interest in Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings and his philosophy for life has increased by many bounds

I would soon write a post on my visit to Navadarshanam. I need real time to write about it, because its kind of tough for me to explain that wonderful experience in words.

  1. hmm, gandhi! one of the most loved characters of history! unfortunately, i personally do not revere him. and the seven sins reiterated by him were first told in upanishads.

ya, navadarshanam might be a good village.

  2. I agree. All good sayings and practices we hear from different sources, have been already explained in our vedas and upanishads. But, why hasnt that treasure reached every one of us?

The answer to this question i think lies in a Panchatantra story, where a tiny bird gets killed by a group of monkeys by throwing advice at them, when they weren't receptive to her.

We are idiots, who are living in a imaginary world of pleasure. Vedas dont reach us because we are not prepared for them.

They wont find you, you have to find them.

Thanks for mentioning abt the Upanishads.

By the way, are you aware of some source where we can read them?
